I just moved to North Carolina after moving from New York to California. When I moved to CA I had to take the written driver's test at the DMV to get my license, even though I had a NY license for 10 years. When I moved from CA to NC I had to take the written test again!
It made me start wondering what other states require you take the written test to get your license, either when you move their or to renew.

Good question but I could not find what you are looking for except that it states that only a few ask this and yes california is one of them but all require you to take a vision test..
