Facts about the road test:
On the actual road test, a safety specialist will ride with you while you drive in an off-road test area or on a public road course.
The purpose of the road test is to make sure that you understand the rules of the road and that you can drive safely.
If your car has a standard transmission, the examiner will ask you to demonstrate your ability to shift gears correctly.
The road test will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
The examiner may test you on the following items:
Driving in reverse
Stopping at signs
Nearing corners, intersections
Stopping smoothly
Sitting properly
Turning around
Steering properly
Yielding right-of-way
I took my test in Wayne on the course – not on the streets.
I had to drive straight, turn left into the area where you parallel park, then since it was a dead end, I had to K-turn to go back the other way, stop at the stop sign, then turn left to go to the rest of the course. Make sure you look & signal. I remember a couple of stop signs. Make sure you come to a full stop, count to 3 & then look both ways (twice) before you go. I believe I had to hand signal once (but this was years ago). There was a small bridge I had to yield (it was a narrow bridge so that only one car would fit at a time). Then when you get near the end & you think you are done, you have to back up straight. Make sure you look over your right shoulder, left hand on the wheel, right hand on the passenger seat back & go STRAIGHT & slowly & carefully.
Good luck to you, it is not bad, I passed on the first try. Ask your friends that have taken it, they should know better than people here.
