You want to ease into the break as quickly as possible, if on a 2 or more lane road, turn ur signal on and get into the farthest right lane and come to a complete stop… every other car will be doing the same unless they wana risk getting arrested
You must convince the examiner that you are bringing the car to a halt as quickly as possible and as safely as possible: if the examiner does jerk forward then that is just a natural consequence of rapid deceleration and as he asked you to do it then he should be prepared for it. Things may have changed, but in my day it was permitted to allow the engine to stall if unable to hit the clutch quickly enough, but with an automatic this is not a problem anyway.
Your objective in this situation is purely and simply to stop the car – do not worry about signalling or changing lane or even moving into the side of the road: any other action apart from applying the brakes may cause you to lose control.
The simplest way to get it right is to practice on an empty area of tarmac, so that you can learn how hard to brake without risking locking up the roadwheels.
Don’t forget, your examiner will mark you down if you do not apply the parking brake once you have stopped…
