Taking the road test tomorrow in standard in NYS. I have some questions…?

First and foremost, I am really wondering about whether or not you must keep both hands on the wheel at all time, I mean how could you if you’re shifting? I suppose once you’re in 3rd gear and you don’t have to make constant stops then you can.

Also I was curious about the whole "right arm behind the passenger’s seat when backing up" deal. Should you do it or should you not? I mean you have to turn your shoulders if you are going to look over your right shoulder through your rear window.

This is what I’ve got for questions for now… boy am I nervous…
I’ve parallel parked before easily but now the whole "6in or less" deal and if you go above it’s instant fail, although my manual says a foot so… we’ll see.

Wonder if I kill it if I will automatically fail… why couldn’t it be a "drive from point a to point b" and pass?

Oh well…
thanks for the help in advance

first shifting is only possible by removing your hand from the steering wheel… 2nd use your mirrors thats why they are there. do they make you parallel park now days? and i dont think if you kill it you’ll fail if you repeatedly kill it i’m sure you will.

The NYS driver’s test is a joke. I parallel parked behind one car, that is, there was no one behind me. And of course you can take your hand off the wheel to shift… how else would you? I didn’t put my hand behind the wheel when backing, and I passed, but my instructor was pretty inattentive.

http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/broch/c28.htm says, "Do not race the engine or cause it to stall," but I don’t know if that is cause for failure. Sucky thing is, you could be failed by someone who has never even driven a stick before. But please don’t worry, and do your best!
