You will do fine. There is no such thing as over checking your blind spot. You are just being cautious. Good luck!
Honey, the first thing you HAVE to do is calm down. Check your blind spot when you change lanes or turn left. When you're backing, you shouldn't have a blind spot if you're doing it properly with your right arm on the seat back of the passenger seat. Good luck on your test!
Always turn around and look when they ask you to reverse, remember that and just drive safe and courtious and you will do fine.
1.) You should always check your blind spot when changing lanes, that includes a turning lane. Its just to verify that a car is not in the lane you are trying to enter. You should not have to check your blind spot when you are simply turning left or right. It really doesn't do anything of value and you might get docked for taking the eyes off the road from the direction the car is traveling.
UPDATE: I stand corrected. You should check your blind spot when turning as well.

This website is for Canada, but from all the other advice I've seen it seems to be true in the US as well.
2.) Yes and no, you shouldn't be constantly turning your head. This might disorientate you a bit if you spin your head back and forth too much. On the other hand you should periodically check at least twice or more to verify that nothing is in your path as you back up. Take it slow and use the mirrors as well as look every once in awhile.
3.) You shouldn't need to check the blind spot unless the lane you are in has incoming traffic from a ramp. Since you live in a small town this shouldn't be a problem.
4.) Stay calm, get good sleep, you have a permit so take the car for a spin with a licensed driver about 3 or 5 hours before your test to get some last pointers and warmed up before the test. If you are not ready to pass the test then thats the way it will go and you will learn from your mistakes. Otherwise, if you pass then you will know that you worried too much and are ready to get that license photo, and the license card of course.
You'll be right its not that hard. Remember to look at your mirrors a lot.
Good luck.
You must always check you blind spot when changing lanes. You must always check for cross traffic when turning, and you must make your traffic check obvious to the examiner by turning your head. You cannot check you blind spot too much.
You do no need to check your blind spot when you are driving straight and not changing lanes, but when you are moving into a turning lane, you do need to check your blind spot.
Don't be scared. I've taught many students to drive, and since you are aware of the importance of the blind spot check, you are ready for your test.
