How many people have to die before we deny licenses to people who are no longer fit to drive?
Folks, the main reason 17 year olds get into more accidents is that they have limited driving experience. No matter when you start, you're going to be a beginner. If you made it 18, then it'd be 18-19 year olds getting into the same number of accidents that 17 year olds get into now.
And that doesn't change the fact that these answers aren't reallly answers – once class of drivers needs to be tested – not removed, just tested. They're killing people. The fact that there are other drivers who are also dangerous is not relevant to the question. It's like saying we're not going to outlaw texting while driving unless we also outlaw cellphone use while driving.

Teenagers are by far the most dangerous.
Only if we raise the minimum age to have a drivers license to 25. Teenagers and low 20s are the most dangerous drivers.
As much as it pains me to say this, zaza is correct.
It should depend on their driving history.
i totally agree
if they can say you have to be 16 and pass a test to drive then once you get old you should have to take a test every time you go to renew your license
i think that the standards to get a divers license in the US should be raised. we are among the worlds lowest of industrialized nations.
Until they make a young person wait until they are 25 before they CAN drive. Look at the statistics. Yes, I know that old people do not drive as well as they did in their 40's…but it is not old people that are killing 50,000 people a year on the highways.
I'm willing to take a test every time I get a license renewal and a vision test .
The laws are too lax . Cars are dangerous weapons . Why wait until we are elderly ?
i feel like they should get an eye exam to see if they can see, not get a license because they have been driving forever…
Its a good idea that will probably never happen most politicians know that the elderly usually vote in every election and to make them mad could have a negative impact on their political career.
No.
you need to go ask your insurance agent which group dies and
kills others more in vehicle accidents: 65-75 year olds or 16-26 year olds. Be careful what guidelines you set, you may not get a license.
Only if statistics prove that, on a proportional basis, the elderly are more prone to drunk driving, aggressive driving, speeding, drag-racing and other infractions.
i don't think old people are the best drivers but i'm more worried about young guys that drive like idiots
The min. driving age whould be raised to 25.
If they have repeat offenses at that age, maybe they should be offered 3 wheeled Rascal scooters to get around and to encourage them to leave the driving to someone else?
i'll say this if no one can drink legally till their 21, then why should they drive? and yes, people over 70 should get retested. my mom included. her driving scares the crap out of me. good thing she lives in texas and i live in michigan.
That is actually a decent idea
No, not as long as you will take them to the store, doctor, dentist, etc. Most of these old people have no one to call on, no one cares for them any longer, all their Friends have died, and they are a burden to every one. In a space of a few years with an ever increasing speed, you, if you are lucky will be one of the old ones, rejoice.
