    1 you pay up front
2 return means you get choice of another car not your money back
3 return involves you paying more for next choice

If you are talking about the GM program where you could drive the vehicle for 30 days and return it if you don’t like it, you can drive it for no more than 4,000 miles. A good program however there were some conditions that you needed to understand.

The program expired January 4, 2010. GM only continues to list the details of the offer because some of the cars involved in this program are still out there.

Here are some of the conditions. For a more complete list see the link below.

This applies to new cars only

First, you have to pay for the vehicle.

You must drive the vehicle for at least 30 days

You must return it within 60 days

There must be no damage or abuse. No damage over $200

If the vehicle is involved in an accident the car is yours, you can not return it, even if the damage is repaired

The return must be approved before the 60 day time limit is up. If considering a return, I would contact the dealer at least by the 45 day mark to allow time for the approval to process.

If you had a trade-in, you do not get it back. You will get the money back that the dealer gave you for your trade.

You can only do this once per household. You can not buy a car, return it, then buy another from a different dealer and expect to return it.

As far as I know, General Motors is the only manufacturer with the courage to make an offer like this. They feel if you actually drive one for a while, you will like it enough to keep it.

Yes, you may be able to return it but it won’t be cost free. It’s not like they are going to give you a free 20 day test drive.

Read the fine print, these things are never designed to be in the consumers favor. There is always a catch.

  5. G6er says:

I disagree with mycoyblues. The program is very much in the customers favor. People have very odd expectations. Transportation is NEVER free. EVER. so yes, there will be a few, or a stipulation of some kind. That is basic basic thinking. No catch would mean a person could drive a new car and switch every 30 days and never pay a cent. Even if they paid up front, they would always have new cars. So you MUST expect there is a cost, but lets be Honest, EVERYWHERE else, you buy a car, it’s yours. so even giving a fair option to return is better than any other competitor on the market, i would say that’s very much in favor of customers.

Being that, call up the dealer and ask them. They will gladly tell you the rules to the program because the dealers don’t loose out, it’s a GM program, they are just told the rules and if the rules are followed, everything goes smoothly. They have nothing to gain by lieing to you about how the program works.

They had Bosch test it on a Mazda and Ford focus. Apparently it does work according to Bosch on these cars.

    LOL. No.

All a dealer has to do to deem a car nonreturnable is mark down a tire or two for replacement and that’s that.

    Yeah, that’s customer friendly.
