What state/province are you in? Just concentrate on it. You can do it! In my test we didn't have to do 3-point turns, but the parking section was crazy. Don't worry. Just concentrate. Don't go too slow or too fast. Turn the wheel all the way in your turn to do it in the shortest distance possible. Look backwards and also glance forward so you can see where you are going.
The biggest bit of advice I can give is to stay calm. Pretend it is someone you know well sitting beside you. Do everything by the book, don't give them any reason to fail you–but be self-confident and relaxed in doing it
Start all the way over to the side of the road
Turn the wheel as far as you can to the right, before you let the car move at all
S l o w l y let the car move towards the opposite curb–get as close as you can to it, but don't let your wheels touch it!
Now turn the wheel as far as you can to the left before you let the car move, put it in reverse, and again slowly let the car back up….
(edit…this assumes you are in UK…else reverse your right & left)
When you are pretty sure you can straighten out and go, again turn the wheel to the right before you let the clutch out..gently gently, off you go!
good luck…
Okay, the very first thing to do is to control your nerves! Practice SLOW, deep breathing, and do this sitting in the driver's seat so that when you're sitting there tomorrow you'll have that memory to help you. Also while you're sitting there, with the engine off, look around you at the controls and run your hands over them in the correct order, so that your movements will be smooth and rehearsed. Mentally go through the course over which you'll be driving and rehearse the moves you need to do.
Avoid drinking coffee and cola drinks with caffeine in them, as this will only make you more shaky and anxious. Make sure you get to bed early tonight, with your clothes set out ready for the morning, and everything prepared so you don't have to rush.
Have a good breakfast before your test, not an excessive amount, a bowl of cereal and fruit is enough, and will give you the energy you need to think straight.
As for the 3 point turn, the key is to align your car correctly at the start: parallel with the kerb, and a car length in front of the parking spot. When you're in that position, first look out for oncoming traffic, PEDESTRIANS, or other cars pulling out. WAIT until it's completely clear. Don't rush it.
Then smoothly turn your wheel, checking your mirrors constantly, and make sure you're in gear. Next your feet need to be doing two things: your left foot should stay lightly on the brake to moderate your car's movement, and your right foot should GENTLY accelerate. Once your rear wheel is near the kerb, you should ease off the accelerator, press a little harder on the brake, and straighten up the wheel.
Only once the wheel is straight, and you've checked your mirrors again to ensure you're not going to run over a pedestrian or hit another car, then you can gently reverse into position. KEEP your foot on the brake until you have put the car in park and applied the hand brake: this is called making the car safe. Your examiner should be impressed.
Good luck!! It took me three goes, but I made it!
what the heck does this have to do with parenting?
firsts, take a deep breath and relax. always be attentive to the road and also to the other cars on the road. remember what you've learned from previous lessons and apply them. good luck!
