Parallel Parking on Driver's Test?

I asked my dad to go with me to practice parallel parking for my driver's test. We are going to put 2 of our cars out in the street in front of our house and then we are going to take the car that I'm doing my test in, and he's going to take me to practice my parallel parking with that car.

The problem is, I need to know how far apart to put the cars. So if anyone can tell me how far apart the cones are on the driver's test that would be great.
I don't have a copy of the handbook, I had it with me when I did my driving hours, and I left it in my instructor's car. I don't remember how far apart he said either.
And I know what I'm doing, I know how to judge the distances, and I know if I am not going to make it or not. We did this literally for 2 hours with my instructor, I did it perfectly nearly every time. I just want to be sure I can practice in the car that I'm using for the test. A simple number would be a great answer guys.

it should be in your drivers education handbook.

Alrighty, thats really stupid :D . Using real cars when the person can't drive to begin with. Totally stupid. Go get some traffic cones and like 2 really long sticks. 1 for each cone. Then dangle maybe some tissues or something colorful on the top of the sticks so that they are easy to see. As for the distance, I think the distance is like 1 full car length + 3-4 feet on each side so like… 1 car + 6-8 feet? If you wanna get a more accurate number go into town with a tape measure and measure out the distance of the parking spaces that are on the side of the street. I'm sure you know what I mean, the parking spaces that are along the curb for parallel parking. I can't blame you if you don't take my advice for the measurements, but if you use real cars to practice with that is just stupid.

I didn't have to parallel park on my driving test.

Be sure you need to, first!
I still don't know how to parallel park.

  5. Driving Instructor (BRAKE!) says:

There's NO parallel parking on the CA drive test. However, you didn't give a state…so I don't know if this is helpful or not.
Generally speaking, the MINIMUM space you should attempt to parallel park in is 1 1/2 times the length of the car you're driving. Visually guesstimate the space available to park in before attempting to maneuver into it.
A picture diagram is found in most driver handbooks, as well.

  6. What? says:

uhhh..i think you should put two garbage cans far apart then two cars.
put your car in the middle of the two garbage cans then pull the cans a little farther then your car so you'll be able to back far enough to get out.

when you take your test, the parking space for parallel parking is really wide. If you really want to practice, you should go to the DMV where you would take your test and do it there, thats what I did, and passed. You'll do fine, good luck!

well i cant load the page, but heres what i learned:

so your driving and then the trooper tells you to do parallel park behind a car.
-you pull up next to the car(make sure your about 2-3 feet away, so you dont hit when your go reverse)
-cut the wheel ALL the way to the right and back up till the right front window lines up with the bummpers of the car next to you. from there, cut the wheel like 1 1/2 to the left and just keep backing up.
other than that, use common sense, and correct u self
