In South Africa, it is definitely an essential part. You got to get it just about spot on first time, else you fail.

Other countries may not be so strict, however, when I took my test in UK, they were also fairly strict with respect to parking.

Its definitely a part of the test. I suggest you do it as well as possible quickly. Don't dwell on it and don't spend a lot of time doing it. IF you are not parked perfectly when you are done, thats ok. You'll lose more points by going back and forth trying to get it perfect. And you'll lose lots of points if you hit the curb. Depending on your state, touching the curb is an automatic fail.

Just pull up to the spot, back in carefully, pull forward to bring in the front. Maybe back up just ONCE more.

I ended up 3 feet from the curb (in a semi truck) and passed. only lost a couple of points.

Leave it there. Tell the tester you're done.

parallel parking is part of the test.I believe it is one foot from the curb and you get one try.
