If you have an insured car you are selling in Pennsylvania & someone test drives it & wrecks are you liable?

Do you or your car insurance company have to pay for whatever damage the person did to your car or the neighbor’s winnebago?

Yes. You are liable to bear the damages and also to pay the penalty for driving in reckless manner by the driver. It is your sole responsibility. Good luck

As a general rule insurance follows the car then the person.

So I hope you did not cancel or let your insurance lapse since you are selling this car? Since the damage that the person test driving YOUR car would owe for the neighbors winnebago and if you have collision coverage on your car, your insurance would pay for that less your deductible.

If by some reason you were dumb enough and took off insurance on your own car since you were selling it, then it would go to the test driver of your car’s insurance company. You did verify the driver had insurance and got that info before you let them test drive your car?

But for someone to test drive and hit a neighbor’s winnebago appears to not have much experience or does not know how to drive in the 1st place.

There could be a bright spot in all of this. If when this test driver crashed your car and if your car is totaled, then your insurance company if you have collision could total your car and you would not need to sell it.

    good luck
