I test drove a used (2004 i think) Honda civic Si hatchback(manual)…?

I drive a jeep wrangler(manual) and the first thing i noticed was that the clutch was way different and easyer to engage the transmissionI(in the civic).

can someone explain this to me. What is the diff. How does it work. I didnt hardly have to move the clutch pedal to engage.

Needless to say i had never driven a car like that and it was very fun to drive!!

the civic si uses a performance clutch, and is designed for quicker, more precise shifting. the wrangler clutch is designed for better control, and to be more deliberate with torque.

This has several factors. First and formost the civic clutch has a closer gear ratio, making it alot easier to shift, also the clutch is designed for high rev shifting and smoother shifts. The jeep shift is like rowing a boat across the panama canal it is designed more for off roading and cruising rather than quick precise shifts.

The civic was designed for women with a lighter pressure plate and increased hydrolic pressure in the slave cylinder. The jeep was designed for offroad and maximum clutch grip heavier pressure plate and while women drive them they are mainly owned by men.

performance clutches tend to have a lower amount of needed weight to engage, for instance a 6lb clutch needs 6 pounds to engauge, so im sure that civic has some sort of after market clutch, also though honda civic and all small cars have lighter clutches then a jeep wrangler which would have a much more heavy duty system
