And it drove and rode like a tank. Did I happen upon the wrong one or all they all like this?

There all like that, there big and use a lot of gas to get you to and from where ever you want to go. Try 8 to 12 mph in most big SUVs. I hope you got a lot of gas money as well.
Good Luck and GOD Bless
A lot of the 2007 Chevy Tahoe models are capable of hauling and towing heavy loads, and there are a few which are "super powerful". The 4 door, 4 wheel drive version weighs over 5300 lbs (thats greater than 2.5 tons!) and has a Gross Vehicle Weight of over 7300 lbs with a trailer rating of an aditional 5000lbs.
With all that weight and towing capacity, yea, it sure does sound like it is a tank!
I think the 2 door, 2 wheel drive would have a softer ride, but you will never mistake it for a Cadillac!
Here is the site where I found this information:
http://motoringsearch.com/2007/Chevrolet/Tahoe/4WD-4dr-1500-LTZ-specifications.html
It's going to ride like a tank. It's basically a truck (a Silverado with an enclosed back end). Any full size body on frame truck will ride like this. If you want an SUV that rides like a car, you need to look at something more along the lines of a Chevy Equinox/Pontiac Torrent, Toyota Highlander, Lexus RX 330, etc.
Many of the full size SUV's ride like a tank once they gain some speed. I drive a 2004 Ford Expedition and once it starts rolling nothing but a steep hill can stop it (or course, besides the brakes). If your considering buying, personally I would try out the 2007 Expedition, or 2007 Nissan Armada. They both get better gas mileage, and the Ford has more horsepower with a 6 speed automatic transmission. The brakes on the 07 Expedtion are a little hard to get used compared to the previous models and and some new cars.
That is correct assessment.
But consider the fuel cost for this truck
I have a Nissan X and 1/4 tank costs me $20 right now and it does not look like it will be getting any cheaper
My step-mom has one and it rides amazingly well. Gas milage in is about 16-19 miles to the gallon. sometimes with cruise control and speed limit 20.
