ha, i failed my first, second and barely passed my third time. i thought if i pressed the breaks to much they would break. so i ended up going 35 through a school zone. and i didn't understand the concept of why i needed to look over my shoulder when i got into another lane, so i would look over my right when i was changing to left. just be calm. don't try to impress your instructor just do what you think is right.

Do everything slowly and deliberately. I once had to take the test in another state after I already had a license for years and I failed because i drifted past the white line at the stop sign. How embarrassing. They don't penalize you for going slow.
As for what to keep in mind… try to relax. Think of the fact that if you fail its no big deal, just come back. Don't tell your friends your taking the test that day since then it will seem like a bigger deal if you fail.
