How do you trick a car sales men in your thinking about buying, when you really just want the test drive?

MINI Cooper, VW New Beetle and Audi A3 are the cars I want to test drive to see which ones I like better, but I don’t plan on buying within a year from now. I’m just curious how they drive.

But are there any ideas so trick them? I dont want to do the paper work, but I wouldnt know what to say after we come back from the dealership?

Thanks

Just say you want to test drive. All they will do is ask for your license and will hold it. Done it many times before, even with porsche. Then split and ask for your license back. It’s as simple as that.

I used to do that at junk yards…. it was more fun that way because if you ever drive around a junk yard, in a car you don’t care about, its alot of fun!

Those 3 cars aren’t so great. Stick to Japanese and American!

BE honest. Say you are shopping and interested. You hold the upper hand when you say you are looking at several. For example, the cooper sells for xx dollars. And if the sales person knows you want a VW, they may drop the price for you.
    Use your leverage.

PLease, dont do this. You dont need to "trick" anyone. Why do people always act like this?….

Just go in and tell them what you are doing, and what your plan is. Go during a slow time of the week, like a weekday morning. Be up front and let them know why you are there. If they choose to let you drive, great.

Salespeople make their living on commission only. That means they only get paid when they sell something. Time spent with you jerking them around could be spent with a real buyer looking to spend money and put food on the salesperson’s table.

How would you like to go into work, work a whole shift, and have your boss say "oh you dont get paid, I just wanted to see if you knew what you were doing." Would that be fair? Of course not.

Just go in and tell them you want to test drive a car then show your license. Most will not bat an eye at letting you test drive a car. They are more than willing to sell a car at any cost.

The best thing to do is dress your best, act like you have the money and say you are test driving. Tell dealership there is no need for paperwork because you will be paying cash.
