ok so im taking my driving test tomorrow… should i use a manual transmission car or a automatic. Im nervous because i dont know if they test harder here in California if you take your test in a stick shift car or automatic. if i do take a stick shift car, what should i look for so i wont fail. Do they test harder, is more difficult. If i stall it, will i automatically fail. can someone give a website or videos on how to help pass the test with a stick shift car.. please help a.s.a.p.

automatic.
Automatic. Less chances of stalling and more attention on the road. Stick with the automatic and you’ll be fine. Good luck. Christopher
Automatic. I took mine a few years back, I would imagine they are looking specifically at your ability to maneuver the car through traffic and places. Don’t make it harder on yourself by worrying about shifting, trust me it’s already hard enough.
I would say if you are comfortable driving stick then you should have no problem at all. The driving test in california really aren’t as hard as some people say it is as long as you just pay attention to what you are doing and don’t do anything crazy. If you have problems driving stick then see if you can get an automatic just to relieve stress. I don’t know if stalling is an automatic fail but as i said if you are comfortable driving stick then it should be no problem at all for you
they are looking at your abilty to operate a car in traffic. automatics are obviously easier to drive because you have less things to worry about, if you take a manual car, they’re gonna look at how you shift, how you use the clutch, and it would be easier to screw up in a manual, so of course the manual test is harder.
if your comfortable with manual, go ahead. but if i were you, take the safer route and use automatic just to make it easier.
Automatic, you may stall the vehicle if you get nervous with a stick shift.
Wait hold on, how can you be taking the test if your not sure which your driving, you usaully learn with 1 or the other unless you’ve learnt with both, then go with the 1 you find easier. Your question sounds like youve never been in a car and your choosing last minute.
If you’re taking your test tomorrow haven’t you left it a bit late to be asking this question? Automatic is always simpler, one thing less to think about, but here in the UK if you pass your test on an automatic you are only qualified to drive automatic so, at least over here where we have mostly manual transmission cars, this can be a drawback.
Go for manual, it’ll be good for you. Whilst driving, take it slow so that you can shift your gears smoothly. Left foot on clutch will coordinate well with the right foor and left hand on gear whilst the right hand on the steering (or otherwise for hands’ positions for LHD) will all be fine if you just relax, don’t bother about the criticism of the tester and drive in a smooth manner…
