Try using some of those periods in the question and not just in the title.

This is going to be different in every state so you will have to let us know what state you live in before anyone will be able to give you an accurate answer.

DRIVERS TEST!!!!!!!!!?

i take my drivers test on January 21 in Mayville North Dakota and i really just worried about the written test. Ive heard that you have a limited amount of time to take the written test with only 225 seconds to answer 25 questions. I was just wondering if anyone else that has taken their drivers test in North Dakota could give me some more information on what it is like or how difficult it is. THANK YOU

  1. David W says:

225 seconds is less than 4 minutes for 25 questions; that sounds like someone is trying to scare you with an urban myth. I doubt they'd give you too much time (like several hours!), but I don't think it's as bad as you've heard.

I couldn't find any details on the test on the ND DMV site, but you could call a branch and ask.

  2. UCANTCME says:

Safe driving tips to help pass your road test:

STEERING Steer smoothly whether you are driving straight ahead, turning or backing up.

ACCELERATION Accelerate smoothly and moderately. Don't race the engine or cause it to stall.

BRAKING Bring the vehicle to a stop gently. Start braking well before your stopping position to avoid "jerky" stops. Make sure you stop your vehicle in the proper position of the lane.

CLUTCH/GEAR Always be sure your vehicle is in the correct gear. With either an automatic or a manual transmission, shift into the proper gear at the right time without "grinding" the gears.

SPEED Obey the posted speed limit, of course, but also adjust your speed properly due to weather, road, visibility and traffic conditions.

FOLLOWING DISTANCE Keep an adequate space "cushion" between your vehicle and those you are following. Use the "two second rule" described in the Driver's Manual. Be sure to increase your following distance in poor weather or visibility.

TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES Know the meanings of signs, signals and pavement markings, and obey them consistently.

STOPPING POSITION If a stop is required, stop your vehicle before it reaches an intersecting street. If stop lines or crosswalks are present, stop before crossing them. If your view is blocked after stopping behind the crosswalk, move up until you can clearly see your way, then stop again if necessary.

LANE SELECTION AND POSITION Keep your vehicle in the proper traffic lane, especially when preparing to make turns. Don't allow room for another vehicle to pass you on the side that you are turning toward.

COMMUNICATION Let other drivers and pedestrians know which way you want to go. Use your directional signals or horn consistently and at the proper times.

OBSERVATION Look for and identify potential problems or hazards in the traffic around you – not just straight ahead, but behind you and on either side. Check your mirrors frequently, but be sure to look over your shoulder behind you when changing lanes or backing up.

ANTICIPATE & REACT TO OTHERS Anticipate possible driving errors by others and be ready to react safely to make up for their mistakes.

Drivers Test!?

Im taking my drivers test tomorrow. Could everyone give me your best advice and pointers? Especially on parallel parking. Any answer is appriciated!

  1. jay says:

look forget parallel parking if you do good on everything else it dont matter if you mess that up

  2. Spring Time says:

Honestly, I didn't even have to parallel on my test.

All they want to know is if you follow the basics. Street light signals. Stop at stop signs. Pedestrian yielding.

  3. Caramel says:

I haven't taken my test yet but my sister said just be really polite to the people giving the test but don't be really annoying or they will fail you. They could fail you for the smallest things so you should make sure to give a good impression cuz thts a big part of what's based on. Also, if you don't pass don't stress cuz you could just take it again. My dad took it 6 times!! lol

  4. Capoeirista13 says:

know how to turn your turn signals on/off, ur hazard lights on/off, use your windshield wipers/fluid, the brakes/gas(obviously), and emergency brake, u have to do all that before you actually drive

also before u start make sure not only u but also the instructor both hhave ur seatbelts on!!! oh and stop fully at red lights and stop signs, and if there is a yellow light actually slow down!!!

then you will probly just leave the parking lot and make a big circle, make sure you make your turns tight enough, and keep your hands on the wheel at all times! (i got burnt for that)

when it comes to parallel parking, my method is to align myself with the car(or cone) in front, then to back up turning only slightly until i cant see the curb out of my side-view mirror anymore, then i turn the wheel hard for a more extreme turn and when i feel as though im perpendicular w/ the other cars, or close enough, i turn the wheel back

  5. therealdealmcneill says:

wow i just got my license today its fuckin awsome. ummmmm brake way before stop signs, and on your parallel park go slow and keep looking behind you. good luck!

  6. zbam91 says:

Well this might not sound like a lot, but don't ask what the speed limit is, I asked during my test and I think she got pissed off lol. But I still passed.

    I think you'll do fine. :)

Questions about the signs, if I remember right, is that there is pictures of signs, and you have to name them from the shape of the sign. Like the triangle is the yield sign, and the 8 sided one is the stop sign. The other questions are multiple choice.

  2. Lance M says:

read the book front to back answer question in the book and you will pass what is in that book you need to know and understand to start being a good and safe driver

Driver's Test?

When you do the driving test to get your license, do they do a vision test if you wear contacts? They did when I got my permit but I wasn't sure about the driving test
In each eye by itself or just both of them together?
I know it's a weird question but i wear hard contacts and they take a long time to get used to them and i've only been wearing one and i've almost gotten used to it. I absolutely cannot wear the other one

  5. ur bloody guts on my rented tux says:

i took drivers ed in high school and took the vision test in the class. i failed it, told them i got contacts and i didnt have to re-take it at the dmv

  6. UCANTCME says:

Visual acuity of at least 20/40 in each eye

  7. Todd says:

Vision requirements vary from state to state.

In Alabama, a vision test is given to all driver's license applicants. If you need corrective lenses to pass the test, this will be noted on your license. (It will be a restriction on your license).

I am quite sure this is common in many other states, too.

drivers test?

you guessed it, i need some advice. i failed my first test miserably.
i'm talking my test in a small, close quartered town with short blocks with lots of intersections and big lanes, so it's hard to tell weather or not you need a lane change or not. i also need some tips on parking, it's a little less than another month away, so i need some tips that i can try and practice with.

Eat bananas before as they help you think, and stop you feeling sick
Have it in your head that it's only money if you fail,
I didn't expect to pass, my knees were knocking, a kid nearly ran out on me in town, I was a wreck and recovering from witnessing a hit and run,
But I did it, 1st time with only 5 minors.
    You can do it,
    Think it's only money

  2. kshortyr says:

unfortunatly this is not something that can be answered with words, practice makes perfect!

  3. Mike G says:

I used to practice parking in a field with my old man no I race cars !

  4. clevergirl says:

I think you just need to go through as many test routes as possible with your driving teacher, and pack in as many lessons as possible so you can learn it all by heart. Good luck with it :-)

  5. Andrew says:

    just take your time
also, always, always ease on the breaks

  6. banananose_89117 says:

Many people do not pass the first time, and that could be good since you may not be ready to drive alone.

When you drive you have to have someone licensed with you. Have that person tell you when you do something incorrectly. Practice makes perfect and constructive criticism will help you learn what you are doing wrong.

When you are practicing NO music, NO talking, etc. Just concentrate on the road. Talk outloud so you internalize into your short term memory the rules and skills you need.

Think back and I bet you know the areas you failed. Practice and practice and practice and don't assume you know it all. If the instructor says turn XXX and you don't have enough time, then signal, move over and turn as soon as you can, saying that you did not have enough notice. People who just turn suddenly cause more accidents than speeders.

  7. Eric (Rockin Rick) says:

A monkey can pass a driving test, sorry. I'm not trying to make fun, but a driving test is very easy. And there's no excuse for not acing it.

You need a little practice is all. Get someone to teach you, go out in the open and practice some things.

The testers just ask you to do things you will encounter while driving. Even if there is no need to change lanes, they are testing you on how you perform the task.

    Parallel parking? practice makes perfect.

You may also find that you do much better in a particular car, some are definitely easier to drive than others.

  8. ssn_hamer says:

you sound to me like your panicking all ready, your instructor would not of put you in for your test if he didn't think you was good enough, if we give you tips they might be our bad habits, go along with your instructers instructions, that way you are not gonna go far wrong,,,good luck with the test please let us all know,,,,,

  9. Arvind N says:

This small comfort but I think, judging from the way you formed your statement, you have work to do.
Read the manual over and over again. Relax.
Driving is all good judgment cause and effect. You have to develop anticipation. This is critical to avoiding accidents. Stay calm in all situations. I used to drive a truck and the most mistakes are made because of over-reaction.
Get the car and go to an empty parking lot. Practice……..

  10. Racist Answer Man says:

This is one case where it's nothing but practice. You need to drive, drive, and more drive.

Take out a few barrels while practicing parallel parking.

I had to parallel park a '72 Kingswood Estate wagon, which was slightly shorter than the QE II. My 3 point turn was more like an 18 point turn the damn road was so narrow.

All your license means is that you know how to operate a motor vehicle. Says nothing about handling said motor vehicle when it tries to kill you. I heartily recommend going to 'skid school'. They're more popular now but when I was kid they only taught 'high performance driving' at a local race track.

I used to wipe out cones like a thresher taking up wheat. To this day I can feel that big Ford training car swapping ends suddenly when learning to drive on wet pavement. Scared the crap out of me. And probably saved my life more than once.

Good luck kid, and happy practicing. You will pass. It make take a few tries, but you will indeed pass.

  11. UCANTCME says:

    KEEP PRACTICING AND RELAX.

know the road signs and their exact deffinations (my friend said the one with the traffic lights on it meant intersection ahead instead of light ahead and failed the test, or it was the other way around i cant remember) but the rest of it is just common sense just read over the booklet

dont stress its not that hard i walked into the DMV grabbed the book got in line and by the time they got to me i had read over the book once and i got a perfect score

Before the test. make the passenger side mirror alittle lower so you can see the curb. but not to much where you can't see behind you.. also practice in a parking lot and use the yellow lines as the curb. hope this helps.

  2. chris2EM says:

The best thing you can do is practice.

    Look in your mirror.

Set it so you can see all your lanes and still see the side of the car.

Look at how the car turns in to the space and moves to the curb.

If you are driving a sedan, look at where the C pillar is and know that is where the rear wheels are at.

If you don't know what a pillar is or if you don't have a sedan, click this link..
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillar_(car)

I would even try to use a car with a convex mirror when parallel parking.

My wife's a DL Examiner. For the most part, it depends on your immigration status. If you applied as a citizen, u need your passport, as alien, you green card.

If it's road test, u need to practice your K-turn (or 3 pint turn), your backing up (using the right posture: your right hand behind the the front seat, you need to look back through the rear windshield and drive slowly), stop completely at stop signs (no rolling stop) , don't hit the cones (when backing out or when parking between the cones).

Other than that, be very calm and do excatly what the Exerminer tells you. No fret, No stress, no distress. Be kool, kalm and kollected.

There's nothing to it, you'll pass it.

    Goodluck.

I didn't fail mine and I'm an awful driver … But I only made one mistake and that was with the turn signal. I wasn't driving my car and couldn't figure out where the turn signal was.

I have to say though I kinda wore a tiny skirt and very low cut top with a push up bra, and a male cop gave me the test .. Which I knew ahead of the time.

Just don't worry, really. If you fail it you can take it again, it's no big deal. Pretty much everyone I knew failed it so I accepted that and went to the driving test thinking I was going to fail it either way so I was not nervous. The more nervous you are the more likely you are to fail so just calm down and you'll be fine. It's not like your life will end if you fail it … You can come back the next week and retake it after practicing what you messed up on.

  2. [R3haB] says:

Ummm… Often the testing person won't put on their seatbelt straight away, to try and trick you, and you have to tell them to put it on… But yeah, just do your best, you can always try again.

The more you study the handbook, the more you will remember at test time. As a matter of fact, some of their questions will be so ridiculous to you, you'll have to roll your eyes at them. I'm not kidding. I studied everyday, for 2 weeks, and got 100 % on the test. I even shocked myself. The hardest part is the distances and such….Just relate them to other things…. like 15 feet could be 15 apples, etc…. Hey, good luck to you!

  2. Jessie j says:

you have to find a way to not stress over it and make your self so nervous you feel like you're going to fail before you even try it is really easy if you just study about an hour or two everyday the questions are all mutiple choice so you dont have to wrorry about that as far as how many i can't recall how many it was you can find practice tests online i dont know what state you are in so i cant give you a link to anything becuase every state differs a lil you can bring someone they just have to wait in lobby for you a tip to rem is to draw out the road signs or write somehting you want to remember a few times and go over it everyday

Each State has a slightly different test, most States are multi choice. Read the handbook and it will not be hard. You may bring a Friend to the DMV while you take the test, but they can not be in the testing area with you.

For the Road test, you cannot have anyone with you except the tester. Again the friend can wait in the DMV waiting room.

Most states have the Driver Handbook online, just google it. You will see many small differences in State laws so do not take advice from your parents/friends/ relatives who passed the test from another State.

    good luck

  4. Wade C says:

It has been years since my drivers test, I'll try to remember everything I had to do for you.

There is an eye test first, you look into a box for this and identify things in the distance.

The written test if I remember correctly had questions on one page front and back so I would say maybe only 100 questions that would be 50 each side.

These were easy questions like how many sides does a stop sign have 3, 4 or 6?

What is a Yield sign for?

It was a mix of multi choice and questions you had to write a short answer for.

What is the hand signal for right hand turn? 1 arm straight out 2 arm bent down 3 arm bent up

Now for the driving test you need to practice making a three point turn, and parallel parking. I was lucky I didn't need to parallel park I could just pull right in! Yeah!

But I did need to drive around the block and make a three point turn in the middle of the street. You can not cheat and use someone's drive way.

That was it, easy to pass don't worry about it.

By the way the tester was a town police officer, just letting you know in advance to prepare you not to be scared.

Edit wow it has been so many years I almost forgot some important things!

Two hands on the wheel at all times, even steering they want hand over hand turning not (the easy reach under the wheel with one hand and turn the wheel all the way around in one smooth motion way.)
Signaling a half block to the turn long ways and the block width short ways. Now these are small town blocks it may be different there for you I heard city blocks are about 3 or 4 of our blocks in that case that would not apply I think it is a measure of feet actually.
Hand positioning most of the while driving is I think 2 O-clock and 11 O-clock. Keep your fingers relaxed don't grip the wheel too tightly, while driving look around do not let your self get "Yellow Line Hypnosis." What this means is you stare at the road in front of you and before you know it you are in a daze almost sleep like and will not be aware of potential dangers.
If people pull out in front of you respond quickly but not drastically, in other words quick to put your foot on the break but press on the break never slam on the break and also remain calm that you did not hit her/him instead of shocked you almost hit him or her. If this happens and you react quickly but conservatively and calmly this could boost your score.
Yes someone else's bad driving can help you if you respond correctly and avoid an accident while staying calm.

Driver's Test?

I didn't pass my driver's test and I need to schedule another appointment. However, the soonest they can schedule me for is October 24. Where do I find a person (not the ones at the DMV) that can give me a driver's test sooner?

I'm in the Portland, OR area

I don't think you can take it anywhere but the DMV and have it be valid for your license. I'm sure that a driving school could give you a sample test, but you will still have to pass the official one. You could try another branch of the DMV, find one in a less populated area. I know that the one in Lake Oswego is never very crowded.

  2. ickypig65 says:

Try a different DMV. 87th & Powell, Interstate, Gresham, & I think Clackamas all do drive tests.

    I assume you mean a U turn
a Y turn is a new one on me and I was a driving instructor in the UK for 12 years

I have never heard of a learner being asked to do a U turn

But they may be asked to do a turn in the road

    Ask your instructor
If you don't have a DOT.ADI approved driving instructor don't be surprised if you fail continuously

how should my hands be positioned on the steering wheel, I am going for my drivers test …. also i am not sure how to turn the vehicle without using only one hand? Thanks

    make a v

  2. Carlie says:

hands should be at 11 and 1 oclock and make sure you use hand over ahnd steering or you will get major points off use both hands and dont put one hand under the other HAND OVER HAND

  3. Elise M says:

Depends on the turn. Often you do hand over hand or just keep them in the same position.
Most teachers don't look at your hands, they watch the turn. So focus more on your driving!

  4. Mark H says:

    10 o'clock and 2 o'clock. thats the position

  5. turtle lover says:

your hands should be at 10 and 2 o' clock on the steering wheel

  6. infoman6617 says:

is called ten and two like a clock and turning by hand over hand is just that

  7. Pat B says:

Your hands should be either in the 9 O'clock and 3 O'clock position or the 10 O'clock and 2 O'clock position. These positions are known to be the safest hand positions while driving. Hand-over-hand is a two-handed technique where you cross your arms while turning the wheel.

  8. terrellfastball says:

Proper position for the hands is 10 and 2 o'clock, if you vision the steering wheel as a clock face.

There are some who say now that 3 and 9 gives you more leverage to turn, but I have not seen any studies showing that the case.

Stop at Yellow Lights. When you think you're done parking, pull the parking brake, that means you're really done. And try not to be too nervous lol.

  2. Mike says:

get a good night's sleep. Eat a light meal before the test. Listen carefully to the examiner's instructions and do not give him or her a hard time. Smile and be polite, and be ON TIME for your test. Make sure you went to the bathroom before you go to the test. Don't have bad breath or body odor. Dress casually.

After one year with a provisional license, you may be issued a full basic driver license for a fee of $24. To make this conversion, you'll need to appear in person at an MVC Agency and once again provide identification according to the state's six-point verification system.

  1. kNOTaLIAwyR says:

In Maryland, each motor vehicle testing facility has a road course on the property. It is like a litlle drive to a church, but is not public driving. There is a circle, a left and right turn, a place to paralell park, a 3-point turn area, a straight, some curves, and 4 way stops.

  2. Uncle C says:

In Minnesota, we are taken out onto the road, into real traffic to take our test. No courses for driving are set up. before you go out onto the road, you are asked to identify your cars mech. stuff like the rear defrost button, blinkers, headlights, etc…and they need to see that you know how to operate these things. Then we are supposed to parallel park and do a 90degree backing (this is the only part of the test with a specific area set up) The test I am told takes 20 mins to a half an hour.

  3. James M says:

Wisconsin, like MN, we drive in traffic, the tester will have you do "Y," or 3 point, turn, back up for 50 in a straight line, and then test the basic "rules of the road." On my test i got 2 F-ing points of because the stall he told me to park in, back at the DMV by the way, after the test had a car on either side of it and they were both on top of the yellow divider lines and i had to squeeze into the stall. It made me angry, but yea we have to identify all the gauges and shit to.

  4. UCANTCME says:

WE ACTUALLY HAVE TO DRIVE AND SHOW THAT WE UNDERSTAND THE ROADS AS WELL AS THE RULES.

I thought that same way as you, but I don't know if you are doing drivers ed or not, when I did it they basically coached me through. Im not sure if you would fail for something like that. You would lose points but idk about failure. You can do it though it isn't that hard. The first time I had to do it by myself I kicked its ass. Although, it was in front of a fire hydrant…

  2. mike s says:

Hey Good luck with your driving test on the 27th.To be honest depending on where you are from the driving test can passed even if u fail the parking test.As long as you dont show that you are nervous or worried about the task you should pass.Act as if its a normal mistake and dont huff and puff, they hate that.Good luck and be very aware they look for that often.Scan Scan Scan

  3. Eric C says:

You'll lose a few points on parallel parking … but provided you don't make any other mistakes – you SHOULD pass. (depending on your state)

  4. UCANTCME says:

YOU WILL PASS AS LONG AS YOU DON'T HIT ONE OF THE CONES AND IF YOU THINK YOU ARE THEN JUST BUMP THE CURB, YOU WILL NOT FAIL IF YOU HIT THE CURB.

  5. melrocks! says:

my highschool never taught us parallel parking, so we were never tested on it. to this day (im 25) i still cannot parallel park!

  6. allawishes says:

they let you have plenty of room not like Manhattan no problem

  7. srduncan47@sbcglobal.net says:

You won't fail because of one issue, but just go find an empty parking lot and put car in reverse and back up in circles this will increase your eye hand coordination. Then try to do it ( parallel park)you'll be totally surprised. You can do anything you decide to do

  8. sam says:

depends on where you live and where you take the test. i didn't have to parallel park (thankfully) it also depends on the instructor. every place is different

    ~good luck~

As long as you remain calm and relax you should do fine. One of the first things they check for is if you are wearing your seat belt and usually just have you do the basics ( merging into lanes, reverse, how you handle the car). Not often do they check for parral parking. Hope you do well on your test!

  2. Florida boy says:

Don't rush, take your time, there is no time limit.

  3. xx 3DD Fan says:

It's really easy. I don't understand why people have trouble with parallel parking, it's the easiest part of the test for me. You should get 3 chances to do parallel parking. (and parallel parking is required on every driving test in the US).

I think the hardest part is being perfect. If the speed limit is 25 mph, go 25 mph EXACTLY. I failed my first test because I was going 27 mph. Call that perfection!

Another tip: Exaggerate your actions. While looking both ways, turn your head so that the examiner can really tell that you are looking.

Also, know your basic controls. For me, they asked: turn signals, windshield wipers, low beams, high beams, 4-way flashers, and (opening/closing) windows.

    Good luck!

just drive as often as possible to get some practice in with a good experienced driver.

if you're going for your learner's just study the book for a few hours.

  2. ken-k says:

It's just common sense, don't sweat it. Don't get nervous, think about every situation, that's all.

  3. Angelluvsu says:

Here is a stupid mistake i made when i took mine.
I stopped at the traffic light when it was red of course., But i stopped on the line. Well that didnt cut it with him, u must stop BEHIND the white line not ON the white line. Well it was stupid but while i am driving i still do it sometimes and i see lots of others so keep that in mind!

  4. nfknott says:

I hear that each state has different quirks. Talk to someone who recently passed in your state to find out what the quirks are there.

  5. Caiterz says:

I was absolutely terrified of my drivers test.. i hated driving.. i still do..

But it's not that hard.. just pay attention.. try to have the radio OFF if possible..

during my road test i had to answer a few questions.. (keep in mind these are michigan's questions)

I only remember one… and that was.. "if you are going to hit something.. and can NOT avoid it.. what do you do?"

I read about this question in my book before i took the test.. the answer seemed.. so obsurd.. but it was "sideswipe it"

so i told my instructer guy "The book said sideswipe it" Because personally thats not what i would do XD.. and hes like "the book was right!"

So read you book, stay calm and focused.. you'll do good.

Most people have problems with parrallel parking..
Personally.. i have no idea how to do it, and i did it perfectly. XD

  6. jimmy d. says:

Practice driving with an adult driver who won't criticise or yell at you. Drive in low traffic areas, near your home and on large vacant parking lots. Read and study your manual and ask others that have just taken their tests what they were asked. Don't go until you are comfortable and confident.

Driver's Test???

Well I'm taking my driver's test again, and I really don't want to fail a second time. So I was wondering if you can touch the curb, but not go over it, or if the car can't touch it at all? Thanks
I meant hit the curb while paralle parking.
Thanks Dr. J
Well i didn't hit the curb I actually hit the barrels lol. But as I been practicing I relized touch the curb alot more now. My problem was I was really nervous, and the guy was rude, so my nerves took over.

well if the guy i went with was mean and being a idiot and yelling id be nervous to but i took mine thorugh the school i wen to in high school the car shouldnt hit the curb i dont think youll mess up your rim and the side walk but who cares if you mess the side walk up anyways just keep saying to your self im going to pass and dont get nervous i know i did mine like a year ago

Ok I'll be getting my license soon and I haven't even done parallel parking. I don't even know where to go to practice. Im afraid of doing it too. I have trouble getting real close to things. Any tips for parallel parking without me hitting someone?

  1. Nikki says:

You could try placing two objects far apart and try parking in between them. It's just like double parking between two cars. My dad this for me. He used buckets lol. That way, If you hit the object, you won't get in trouble for hiting someone's car.

  2. Krystal S says:

My mom taught me how to do it.. it was so easy after she taught me.. ok.. you get the back of your car parellel with the front of the car in the front .. then u turn ur wheel all the way to the right,, start backing up.. as u back up straighten ur wheel just a little bit, and back right in.. piece of cake after practice. and if u need to.. put it in drive and pull up a little.
I passed my test with that technique. Good luck!

  3. JLM says:

put two plastic or rubbermaid garbage cans about a cars length apart in a non busy area, put a rake or a broom in each one to make it easier to see. Then practice parallel parking. It won't matter if you hit a rubbermaid garbage can… they bounce back.

  4. SVOMAN says:

do like the race drivers and practice on the computer….
    http://www.mousebreaker.com/games/parking/play.php

  5. dancer says:

you've just got to find an area downtown or something to practice over and over again at.
In some states, they don't even have you do parallel parking anymore for the test. I just took my test a few weeks ago and they didn't have me do it.

  6. Mark A says:

go to a nearby school or empty parking lot and practice there. Always vack into it and turn right. You will soon get the hang of it.

  7. Azn Street racer says:

get 2 cone set them a car link and a half, empty parking lot is a good place

  8. Eskimo Mom says:

First check with your state to find out if they still require parallel parking. Ohio, where I live, didn't require it for my test, but they do require a manueverability test with a box made of 4 cones with a 5th straight ahead that you have to avoid forward & reverse. I like some of the previous tips about rubbermaid trash cans, etc. My Dad did that with me, but he used orange cones. Practice in an empty parking lot at a park, shopping mall, school, stadium, etc. to gain confidence. Good luck!!

  9. The Mr. Pine says:

Practice with nothing and then get some cones to mark your obstacles.

Drivers Test.?

I will be taking my license test this week and i have already failed it twice. The first time i failed it because i went 15 in a 25 zone and i waved 2 people to go before me when i had the right-of-way (at a four way stop sign). The 2nd time i did alright but at a light when i was instructed to turn left i went without thinking that i had to watch if there were oncomming cars and the instructor had to tell me to stop which is an automatic fail. I can't fail it again or i will be required to do all this crap before i get my license….. Please give me some tips.

Just go for a practice drive before you go and take your test again. Think about all the things that the person tells you to do. If you feel it is necessary, go over the book again if you have to. Try not to be so nervous as well. The more you think about how you failed the other test the more likely you are to fail it once again. Try to pretend that you are driving with a friend that is telling you where to go, ect. Well, good luck and I hope you pass your test :)

  2. Andrea says:

lol i failed mine once before too… i just tryed to clear my mind and stay focus on driving and getting my license.

    instead of trying again
try to look in the local paper for drivers ed classes.
i got my permit a while ago.
and i took a drivers ed class over the summer in Florida and if you complete the course you dont have to take the test at the DMV to get your "licence"
    just a thought,

  4. Dave says:

Either study the handbook more or practice driving with your parents more. The way I passed is that my mom hired a instructor for a couple of days and went out in a car that was the size of a boat from the 70s. Just take your time and think about what and how you are going to do it before you do.

  5. gomanyes562 says:

Just practice a lot with your parents. Look at the sheet the examiner gave you and see what you got docked points for, and ask your parents to point out when you do those things.

  6. PAT c says:

If you are failing the writing test you can alway's if not sure of the answer you can just skip to next question. My son figure that out he did about 5 question. If it behind the wheel just remember to buckel up before anything else and alway's use your blinker and keep both hand on wheel at 4& 6 0'clock positin.

  7. Miss Trusoulchild says:

Wow! Just like me…I'm 16 and have failed my drivers test TWICE! I'm going to take it again tomorrow morning and I hope I pass. I'm nervous, but I try not to think about it, and I just try to remember what I learned in Drivers Ed, and also try to relax. Take deep breaths and keep on practicing i'm going to practice more today too! Good luck on your test!

Drivers test?

I'm taking my drivers test on Thursday in PA & I'm nervous. I can sort of parallel park & I drive great but I'm worried about backing up. I can back up fine but I'm afraid I'll hit a car or something during the test. I know that sounds dumb but can you guys give me some tips on backing up & how to get rid of the drivers test jitters?

Thanks!

Get your instructor to put you through a mock test so you are used to the procedure.

  2. destinykucko says:

When i took mine i went out and practiced practiced practiced! on everything i thought i was weak with (parking!!) just go out and practice backing up. Maybe think of the car you might back into as a cute guys or something that wont give you the incentive! Good Luck : D

  3. grapeshenry says:

Practise, practise practise. You really need to develop a sense of how close things are to you, backwards or forwards. And you need to be consistent in the way you approach backing up. Don't change your style every time your reverse.

Everyone is nervous for their first driver's test.

  4. ClickMe says:

Practice makes perfect… think no body is in the car except you and think that the back of the car is the front of the car.

  5. the_potatomuncher says:

When I sat my test (which is a LONG time ago) my tutor got me to put a mark on the rear window (sticky tape) which was directly in line with the kerb as I looked around. When you are reversing, as long as you keep the mark in line with the kerb, you'll stay on line.

As for jitters….try chewing some gum!

  6. Kalyansri says:

You have to gauge the distance between the rear of your car and whatever you can see behind you and back up very slowly.
Try to remember that the examiner understands your jitters, and he or she has tested many other candidates as nervous as you. He will take a kindly view of your nerves if you behave nicely with him or her.

  7. ¡Free Love! says:

Well the jitters are going to be there. It is part of taking your test.

But when backing up…put your left hand on the back of the passengers seat and turn your body around to look out the rear window. Keep your car wheel straight! And you will do fine.

    Good luck!

  8. Daniel J says:

when you parallel park remember that when 1/2 of your car is at the other cars rear bumper its safe to cut between two parked cars and then cut the oter direction to miss it with the front of your car……………..and dont get all worked up over a test, yeah its important to you so as long as you are happy with your results thats all that should matter for you to pass any test…

  9. shosho says:

oh i was the same in the first but after that you will be very good driver
Don't be afraid and tell your self that you that control the car not vise verse
    are you Russian??

  10. Flat_out_Bob says:

I'd go out today and practice if it's quite on your street. Take out two trash cans use the for cars do it until it's just natural. Make sure you look over your shoulder use the mirrors and it will be just fine. No it does not sound dumb. As for the jitters you don't. But do not drink any coffee or anything with caffeine. If your test is in the am get up a little early fix you hair because there cameras take really bad pictures. Good LUCK and think positive!

  11. Just Me says:

Just make sure you stop when you hear something crunch.

  12. vixen0babs says:

practice in an empty parking lot, have your friends stand on the corners of a space to act as cones. your instructor can tell you what to expect on your test. don't worry about it. if you fail, you just take it again in a week. good luck.

  13. dmvexaminer says:

The biggest thing that you need to keep in mind when backing up is not to turn your wheel too early. Here is a recent article with some driving test tips including instructions on backing up:

Killing your Driver Examiner (And 5 Other Mistakes to Avoid on Your Road Test)
    by: Jeff Kelly

If you're one of the millions of people who will take their driving test in the United States this year, chances are it's a very big deal to you. For teens, passing the driving test marks a right of passage and is one of the biggest accomplishments in a young person's life. For others, passing the road test can mean the freedom to take better care of their family or to pursue a more lucrative job.

Unfortunately, about half of those taking their test for the first time will fail. And it happens for a variety of reasons. As a former DMV examiner, I have seen just about everything that can happen on a road test. I've been in a car that has pulled in front of an oncoming semi, I've been rear-ended after stopping for no apparent reason and I've had someone hit the gas instead of the brake and plough right into the DMV building (much to the delight of my fellow examiners). I've even seen other examiners end up in the hospital. If you have a flair for the dramatic and a car that you're looking to get rid of, there are plenty of heart-stopping ways to fail your drivers test. Here are five mistakes that may seem harmless but can lead to dangerous situations.

    1. Stopping in a yield.

Looking for an excellent way to get hit from behind and fail your drivers exam? Look no further. Stopping unnecessarily in a yield is a great way to write off that old clunker that mom lent you for the road test. Even if you don't get hit from behind, simply forcing the person behind you to slow or stop unnecessarily will probably get you a failure. The correct procedure? As you enter a yield to make right hand turn, look at the traffic in front of you. If it is slowing or coming to a stop, do the same. If it is not stopping or slowing down, take a look to your left to ensure that it is safe for you to go. If there is no traffic coming and it is clear in front of you, keep it moving!! On the other hand, if it isn't safe to proceed, then slow down or stop. The point is that you should keep moving if it is safe to do so. Otherwise, you may find your trunk in your back seat.

    2. Signalling too soon.

Where there are two upcoming streets on the right side of your vehicle and the driver examiner tells you to make a right hand turn at the second one, ensure that you do not start signalling until you have passed or are very close to passing the first street. The reason for this? If you signal too soon, traffic waiting at the first street may see you approaching with your signal on, assume that you are turning right away and pull out in front of you. Anyone for a juicy t-bone? Ouch.

    3. Signalling too late. Signalling too late is also a problem. When making a turn, make sure that you signal before you start braking. This warns the car behind you that you will be slowing down and gives them extra time to prepare for it. Even if you don't cause an accident, signalling too late will cost you points on your test.

    4. Hesitating.

Often, new drivers are either so nervous or so determined to show the examiner how careful they are that they hesitate to go when it is safe to do so. Sometimes they even wait for awhile, realize that they should have gone earlier and then pull out in front of oncoming traffic at the last second (kind of like a squirrel crossing the street). It's one thing to make sure that it is safe before proceeding. It's another thing to sit there so long that your car begins to rust. Be careful but be confident. Hesitating is not only a nuisance to other drivers but can result in a dangerous situation.

    5. Backing up improperly.

This one happens A LOT, usually right at the start of the road test. If you are parked in a stall at the beginning of your test and need to back up, make sure that you are aware of the vehicles parked on either side of your car. Remember that if you are looking behind you and start turning the steering wheel as soon as you begin to back up, the front end of your car will swing out sideways and hit the parked car next to you. I can't tell you how many times I had to grab the wheel out of someone's hand to prevent this from happening. It's an automatic failure so be careful. Make sure that you have backed up straight far enough so that when you turn the wheel, the front of your car will clear the car parked next to you.

Remember these five driving tips and keep both you and your examiner on the road and out of the hospital. Good luck and good driving!

driver's test?

  1. chery_red_chick says:

14 inches is probably too much…i think it should be a lot closer. just don't get really nervous or you'll screw things up that you usually wouldn't. make sure to stop BEFORE the stop sign and say your name before you start up again. make sure that you NEVER turn onto a one-way street, always look before you turn into a street, EVEN if your tester says to turn! Just relax, you'll do fine!

  2. Lea says:

My special advice, do a lot of parallel parking.

  3. Trisha L says:

    Hey!
You should only be 8-10 inches away from the curb. If it is more, then yes, you will pass the yellow line.
    Good luck on the test!
Also, remember to grip the steering wheel lightly, but firm enough so that you still have control over it. And grip with your thumps UP. Don't wrap your thumbs around the wheel because of airbag release.
-Look both ways at the intersection when crossing it, (my instructor used to yell at me everytime i'd forget)
-and remember to always apply the brakes a little early so you come to a smooth stop.

    & the rest is cake!
Again, good luck and i hope i helped! =]

  4. CJS_06 says:

Dont stress while you're taking the test! It's a lot easier than you think it will be so dont worry. Just make sure to come to complete stops at stop signs, use your brake during turns, and be going the right speed limit at all times.

Something that I think helped me is that I had my Dad in the backseat and he had a nice conversation with the instructor, so that helped ease the tension for all of us ;-) .

Last thing, drive the car your most comfortable with. Dont feel like you have to roll up in daddy's new cadillac to help your chances.

it's almost all common sense….and if you can't pass it then I personally dont' want to be driving with you

  2. murry0117 says:

You should have taken driver's ed and they would have told you what is on the test and what to study/practice.

You should alos have to do some practice driving time with a certified driving instructor. They will have you practice all of the stuff that will be on the test.

  3. pekklesee says:

For my test, I needed to know the controls in my car: headlights, windshield wipers, defroster, emergency light, etc.

Then, I had to practice driving and stopping, switching lanes in traffic, parking on the side of the curb, backing up in a straight line, turning right against the light, turning without stopping. During the whole time, I needed to periodically check my rear view and side mirrors.

Driver's test?

I'm going to take my driver's test soon and there is a list of things u need, one is the DL-180C validating that i have completed 50 hrs of behind the wheel training. I never had an instructor and i'm taking my test in PA, if that helps any. But what is this DL thing they are asking for?

  1. BluGrrl says:

I don't specifically know what the DL form is, however, I grew up in Ohio and had to take driving classes if I wanted my license before I turned 18. I need to drive with an instructor for a specific number of hours and have classroom time as well. Check out this website for more details
    http://www.dmv.org/pa-pennsylvania/first-time-drivers.php

  2. xmonkeyangel09x says:

In Virginia I know that you have to have a parent or guardian sign something that says they drove 40 hours with you, and then there is a seperate thing called behind the wheel. Most people here take it in high school but there are also private driving schools that do it. What it is, is the person that drives with you is the instructor and you have to complete a number of driving hours with them on local roads interstate, etc. When completed they will issue you a 90-day temporary license and within those 90 days you will be called to court to receive you real license…that's how it works in Virginia, maybe it's similar in PA?

  3. irish24 says:

Here are a couple links to forms that you may need:

    http://www.dot10.state.pa.us/pdotforms/dl_forms/dl-180.pdf

    http://www.dot10.state.pa.us/pdotforms/dl_forms/dl-180c.pdf

    http://www.dot10.state.pa.us/pdotforms/dl_forms/dl-59.pdf

Here is additional informaiton regarding applying for a Junior License:

When you're ready, make an appointment for a road test. You can do this online or call (800) 423-5542.

When you arrive for your test, be sure to bring:

    Your learner's permit.
A completed Parent or Guardian Certification Form. This certifies that you completed 50 hours of on-road driving. It must be signed by your parents or guardians.

    http://www.dot10.state.pa.us/pdotforms/dl_forms/dl-180c.pdf

The registration for the car you're testing in.
    Proof of car insurance.
The license of the person who accompanies you to the test.
If you pass, you will be handed a camera card and directed to a Photo License Center. After getting your picture snapped, you will be handed a junior driver's license, valid for four years.

Now that You have Junior Driver's License

With a junior license you will be allowed to drive alone and choose your own music?provided it's between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. If you drive after 11 p.m., you must be accompanied by a licensed parent or guardian who is at least 21 years old, or a licensed spouse who is 18 or older.

The lone loophole is if you need to drive during this time for work. In this case, you must carry a notarized affidavit from your boss confirming your employment.

Step 4: Driver Training and Regular License

You can apply for a regular license at 17 1/2 years old provided you've had your junior license for one year, have a spotless driving record, have the consent of your parents or guardians, and have successfully passed a PennDOT-approved driver education program.

If not, you must hold off on your official license until you reach 18. Your junior license will then automatically upgrade to regular driver's license status, sparing you the hassle of renewing. If you want a new card, however, you can apply for a regular driver's license by submitting an Application for Change from a Junior Driver's License to a Regular Noncommercial License and paying a $10 replacement fee.
    Testing Requirements

    Written (Knowledge) Test

This exam consists of 18 multiple-choice questions. You need to answer 15 correctly to pass. All of the questions are based on information contained in the Pennsylvania Driver's Manual.

    Road (Skills) Test

Your on-road driving test will last about 10 minutes. Your examiner will scrutinize your ability to flow with real traffic while obeying signs and not posing a danger to other drivers. There's a good chance you'll be asked to parallel park?the biggest cause of test failure?so make sure you practice before the exam.

No. They will assume you know it seeing that you passed the computerized/written part. If you ask them they will know you don't know and will send you back. Go to the DMV and get a booklet and look for the speed limits in different areas.

  2. badbill1941 says:

I would look for the posted speed limit signs.

  3. Jbent says:

Better to ask questions than fail for speeding….but don't ask unless you absolutely dint see any signs or anything telling the speed

study driving. study signals test. pass. get license. drive to vegas. have fun

  2. sheliteful958@sbcglobal.net says:

go to the Department of motor vehicles online and take the practice tests…..You could have your parents or a licensed friend take you out to "drill" you …practice Backing up, paralel parking etc.

  3. chef says:

try not to get nervous during the actual drives and stay alert keep your head moving and looking for things, study the book well and pay attention in class and you will do just fine.

  4. fideux says:

Driver's test generally consist of two scoring parts. The first part is the basic controls test, which consists of scoring on stop lines, backing into a parking space or driveway, and parallel parking. The second scoring part of the test consists of the on road driving. Simply put, if you pass the parking portion, they test to insure you know what you are doing on the road.

The most common failure on the road portion of the test is for driving more than 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. While it doesn't sound tough, it is caused by driving in a speed zone, say 35 mph, and not seeing a speed limit sign changing the speed limit to 25 mph. If you go past the 25 mph sign and you are still at 35mph because you didn't see the sign, you fail.

Practice your parking, especially parallel and backing into a parking spot. Also, have a friend sit in the front seat and make notes on anything you miss during a 30 minute drive. Review the notes, and do the trip again, so that you are used to someone grading you. It will help you not be nervous for the real thing.

    Good Luck!

  5. Josh G says:

Well in CA you just walk in they practicly give you your drivers license hahaha j/k. I recently took my test about 5 months ago it was kinda wet so i just kept it 5 under the speed limit and I passed with no errors. Stop at the stop signs. Dont worry about what the person in the passanger seat is writing they only write to distract you shut off the radio keep both hands on the wheel and know your hand signals for turning. Depending on what state you live in its different in CA it consists of the Permit test "book smarts" then the Driving portion the driving portion is the behind the wheel actions. If they ask you where your hazards are DO NOT reach through the steering wheel reach around. Know where all the pretest things are hazzards, defrosters, and others. Dont be nervous your just going on a drive with your g/ma who is afraid of going to fast keep it at least 1mph under the speed limit and in a school zone slow under 25, it earns points with the instructor they think you care. Most of all after you've got your licence make a few dounuts in the DMV parking lot no im just kidding save that for later.

Drivers Test?

I live in Maryland and I take my Drivers license test in 2 weeks. I am so stressed out about this, because I am moving the next weekend. If I fail, I can't move. So Literally, my entire future is dependent upon weather or not I pass this test. I am so stressed out about it. I literally cry everyday thinking that I am going to fail. Does anyone have any tips for me? Especially on the parallel parking. That is what I am most nervous about.

Also, will they make me take another written test? Or is it just the road test?
Thanks everyone! It's all on a closed course using cones and stuff so I don't have to worry about being on an open road. They just put so much damn pressure on you! Like if you hit the curb a tiny bit you fail automatically. ugg I just hate the pressure!

  1. Information man says:

Just calm down. Let me tell you something, nerves play a critical factor in driving as it is an action of pure hand eye coordination. If your nervous, you'll fail, but if not, you'll do perfect. Its as simple as that.

Also, no written test, just road.

  2. NewMom28 says:

Depends on where you live.. Where I'm from you no longer have to parallel park. Just relax and I'm sure you will do fine. Stop at the stop signs, signal your turns and lane changes, look both ways and watch the speed signs. Also- don't feel like you need to carry on a conversation or make small talk with the examiner just concentrate. GOOD LUCK!

  3. pkrp5 says:

no written test but you have to relax.try going over the course before you take test parking is all in using the mirrors right so make sure your side view and rear view mirrors are set right for you.
have the side view set to see the right side of car and ground

  4. gothicblack@rogers.com says:

should just be a road test……and you should pratice parallel parking, it can be a bit tricky at times, (the tester is usually a little forgiving as long as you don't hit another car!)

  5. George P says:

Practice, practice, practice. Go out and practice everything you can think of. If you practice, it will become second nature. You will parallel park like a pro.

  6. abdiver12 says:

No, once you pass the written, you don't have to take it again, no matter how you do on the road test. The key to being successful in the road test and anything in life for that matter is DON'T THINK ABOUT THE OUTCOME. Just focus on driving well. The same goes with sports or jobs or relationships. Don't think about the outcomes and focus on playing well, or working well, or relating well. As soon as you worry about the outcome, winning or losing, etc, you start getting scared and screwing up. Focus on driving, nothing else. If you drive well, everything else will take care of itself.

know distances and times, like tailgating is a 2 second space. Also know how to parallel park. I hear it is the hardest part of the road test. good luck!! Only 2 years and then I get to take it!!

  2. Nate says:

The tests are generally pretty easy but they throw a lot of trick questions in so just read them carefully and make sure you fully understand what it's asking. Somtimes they will do things like throw double negatives at you or just word something in the opposite way that what you would be used to in an attempt to fool you into picking the wrong answer.

Also double check all of your answers, they writing on those tests is usually pretty small and scrunched together and it's very easy to fill in the wrong box if you're going too quick.

As far as a question sampling, they usually have small pictures of signs asking what they mean. And then just simple rules of the road, questions about school busses, default speed limits on unmarked roads, legal and safe blood alcohol content levels (hint: none). Maybe a question or two about license types and vehicle types and possibly car registration laws.

Everyone's nervous at first. You should be alright. Just remember, not to drive on the sidewalk. Good luck.

  2. ijcoffin says:

Have you studied the rules of the road? Can you identify all the road signs?
Do you understand the defensive driving protocols?
If you answer yes to the above, you should be OK. Good luck.

  3. Caly says:

You need to find a way to relax and BREATHE. Also, sucking on a piece of candy when you study for anything, and then sucking on the same type of candy when you're taking the test, really helps. The flavors and smells take you back to when you were studying. :)

Don't worry about failing. Many people fail the first time they take the test. If you do, just study better-often, but not really longer. Just take 'small doses'. You can do it!

Worrying about if you will be nervous will stir you into a frenzy, so stop worrying! Just breathe and believe!

    Good luck!

  4. pikago5001 says:

just relax and take it easy the examiner is just another passenger and if you dont worry about him and just doing the stuff you learned than you should pass with no problem just remember to use your turn signals and dont turn left on red

  5. wezzy954 says:

What kind of car did u got for XMAS

  6. gameman552000 says:

Definately just relax…the instructor will not bite! If you study the rules and do everything that you're supposed to do on a normal driving situation, you should be fine. It's not too hard at all. I wish you the best of luck!!!

drivers test….?

Hey I'm taking my drivers test tomorrow, I can parallel park really good most of the time but other times not so well. If you fail that part of the test do you automatically fail the whole test or just get points taken away?

    points

  2. L J says:

it's a point system. i made three errors on my test and still passed. i forgot to take the e brake off, slammed on my breaks at a yellow light, and i backed into a space wrong the first time but still got it, you should be ok.

  3. mbeast16 says:

Usually you just get points taken away. Depends on what state you live in. And don't feel bad, a lot of us can't parallel park.

  4. Starry Eyes says:

    just points

  5. racer_350z says:

You won't fail the test just for that. Take your time and use your rear and side mirrors and turn the wheel gradually.

You'll be fine…Like you said, you've done it well in the past! Good Luck!

  6. leged56 says:

I have taken the drive test and got my license the second time so it is easier than you might think. I am sure that they won't have you do any parallel parking because I only had to do regular parking but sometimes they suprisingly throw it in their. If you failed that part of the test they would probably only take two or three points away but if your crashed into a car that was parked in front or behind you then you would definetly fail.

  7. tychobrahe says:

You didn't say what State you are in. In California, parallel parking is no longer part of the drivers test. It used to be, but no longer. I guess it's felt that most people park diagonally these days. Good luck on your test. Don't forget to make a complete stop at stop signs!

try the DMV website, they have practice tests, they really helped me! <3

  3. franma says:

just study the general manual about driving, available at the dmv. Keep calm and you'll do fine. good luck.

  4. Kris M says:

take ur time with the test, and look trough right b4 u take the test, most of it is common sense
dont be nervous, and if u fail, if u dont feel like waiting, jus got to another branch, thats what i did , lol

  5. fdrbcs says:

Take a deeeeep breath, focus and concentrate, dont be nervous, you can do it and will have alotta good driving years ahead of you!! Just remember in your "new found freedom" of having a license…Wear your seat belt and DONT Drink/Drug While Driving!!! Now, go ace the test!!! Varoooom!!!

  6. Khairudin Bin Salim says:

just relax and thinks positive….. the more you tense up the more you will FAIL…..

  7. Billybob says:

For the written test make sure you read that book, several times. It is best to take a high school Driver-Ed class to supplement your studies.
Find someone who knows the material to ask you verbal questions over the book, or go on line and find questions.
Don't think TOO hard about questions. Studies have showed the first impulse answer is correct 80% of the time.

    For the actual Driving Exam:
    Some tips:
    Stay BELOW the speed limit
If you have anything other than 20/20 vision wear glasses if you have em so you can easily get a good read on far away signs
Have your parents tell you random controls to activate/deactivate in the car you are testing with. Go through them all at least 3 times so you don't miss any easy points.
If possible set up cones in a parking lot to simulate tight turns and wide turns, both left and right to get used to the maneuvering capabilities of the car.
If the Highway Patrol officer starts muttering a few things inaudibly disregard it as it will make you more nervous if you don't.
Take a drive through the possible routes w/ your parents (you should know if you've been through 2 times) so you know the locations of all the stop signs and speed limits.
And most of all, stay calm. Not doing so will only spell failure for you.

  8. Jazz says:

Did you fail the driving test or the written test?

If written, you just gotta go over that book everyday and maybe write some notes about what was on the previous test, because it may be on the next one you take.

If driving test, I'd say to take a deep breathe, be calm, and all you have to do is steer, signal, use the gas pedal, and the brake pedal.

    Good luck

  9. rose01 says:

think of the instructor as your best bud
it helped me after the 7th time

  10. glen says:

Try again. You can do it as many times as you want. I'm in my 30's and I know how hard the written exam is. I can always look back on how hard it is. I have no idea how I passed it, but I try.

  2. QuestionWyrm says:

Remember to look when you go through blind intersections. I'm sure the interviewer will take you through residential streets, and if you go past an intersection with no stop sign on any side, make sure you slow down and flip your head from side to side slowly!

  3. Jacob B says:

    ur fine

  4. kc_warpaint says:

Remember to breathe and stay calm! The driver's license examiner is there to help you get your driver's license; they are not trying to keep you from getting one. Buckle your seat-belt and ask the examiner to do the same. They will say no, but it shows concern for your passenger's safety. Then just go out for a drive, pretend you're with your mom or a friend. Do what they ask you to do. If you don't understand what they are asking, ask them to explain. But above all else … remember to breathe!!!!

  5. acbusey says:

Dont worry….. i failed mine on the first try…its not that big a deal trust…and everybody in my school new about it…everybody was really nice and supportive of me…..Youll be fine!!!!!!!! Good Luck!!!!!

  6. Cops says:

wear skimpy clothing and give the instructors sexy looks, it will def give you extra points. slip him your number and a condom if all else fails

  7. UBuck30 says:

Other things they like to look at is parallel parking. Don't forget to check your side and rear-view mirrors, hands at 10&2 position and hand over hand when turning. If you come to an intersection that has a hedge on the corner….remember to stop at the stop sign, then AGAIN at the edge of the hedge to see if it's clear to proceed.
PS- If you fail the first test, you won't exploid. Your arms will just fall off. lol

  8. gfgayle says:

Ensure that you check/adjust all mirrors, lock doors, check your signals and brake lights. Drive with your headlights on as a safety precaution. Use your signal for all lane changes and turns. Follow all traffic signs. Do NOT look at tester while driving. When parallel parking, turn to look at space as you back in to it.

And above all DO NOT speed.

  9. Christine4tw says:

    Here are some important tips:

*GO the EXACT OR UNDER the speed limit.
*Turn your blinker on EVERY time
*make sure you look over your shoulder before you make any turns. (to watch for pedestrians or bikers).
    Good Luck.

Drivers Test?

Okay, first of all, no rude answers please. I hate those! Anyway, I'm sixteen and will be taking my drivers test soon. I'm very nervous about this! What kind of things will make you lose points? Can anyone give me some tips on what to do and what not to do? I'm a very good driver when it's just me and someone I know. It's just the thought of a police officer sitting there watching everything I do! Oh, and if this helps any, I live in Missouri.

keep both hands on the wheel and whatever you do…show them that you ALWAYS look in the mirrors..

  2. Halie H says:

Always make sure you are in the right lane and always make sure your blinker is on. Obviously your seat belt. Always look or act like you're looking in your rearview and side mirrors. It's very essential. Always make complete stops at stop signs and look both ways. Good Luck!

  3. Kelly Bundy says:

i want to leave a rude answer but you ruined the fun
i hope a police officer does get you

  4. jv637 says:

stay calm and try your best. remember to look around & focus on what you're doing.

  5. Your_Star says:

Go the speed limit, and always make sure you're doing that 4 step process…I forgot what it's called. You look in the rear view mirror, then side mirrors…make sure the person sees you moving your head [but not too much], when your switching lanes.

  6. Lisa E says:

First, relax. Pretend the examiner is the person who gave you the lessons.

Fasten your belt BEFORE you start the car.

Keep both hands on the wheel.

Give yourself plenty of time to stop and when you ARE completely stopped, count to 3 before proceeding.

Don't forget your signals and you should do fine!

  7. roxy says:

Just stay calm. They will be writing down a lot of stuff while you are testing. That does not mean that they are making negative comments they just have to record all events. Remember turn signals at all times and stop behind the crosswalks. Know where all the buttons in your car are and keep checking your mirrors. You will do fine. Good Luck!

  8. fizzygurrl1980 says:

Oh, man, I had the worst time passing my driver's test. I used to get all scared and freeze up around the testing guy (who's not a police officer, by the way- just some unlucky guy whose job it is to drive around with teenagers.) Even though I knew all the rules of the road in my head, I would freak out and forget everything when the guy was watching, so I guess my first piece of advice is to not let the guy freak you out. I know, easier said than done, but just try to somehow get your mind off of him. Take deep breaths. DO NOT put on the radio, though- they hate that!! Just remember that you know how to drive and you know the rules. Believe in yourself and everything will work out fine.

  9. walt554 says:

RELAX, what's the worst thing that can happen? you flunk and have to retake it…big deal…Just relax and do your best

  10. jojo says:

make sure you adjust everything like rear view and side mirrors , make sure the horn works and the lights and emergency break, that's all before u even start the test . then just do everything he tells u to do , don't forget to use ur blinkers and stop at railroad tracks if theres any . oh yeah and when you parallel park , make sure after youve done it and u go to get back out in traffic that u turn around and completely look out ur back window then put on ur signal and go

  11. sadie_oyes says:

Keep both hands on the wheel.Be sure to not go over the speed limit, remember to stop behind the crosswalk at traffic lights, always check your blind spot…when the instructor says to take the next "possible" right, make sure the next road is not a oneway and proceed to the next one…when parallel parking, pull along side the car so your drivers doors are even, remember to put your car in park when you are done…remember to "cover the brake" when driving through uncontrolled intersections.

  12. sexy_latina says:

You lose points for anything you do that is wrong. Just remember these tips: When you're doing your parallel parking, 90 degree parking, or any parking that you put your vehicle in Park and then say you're done, this for sure will make you lose points if you park and say you're done before putting the vehicle in Park. Make sure you make complete stops in front of the stop sign, at red lights Do Not go over the white lines painted on the street, that again will dock you points. When turning make sure you put your signal at least half a block away before your turn. When making right turns move over to the right unless there's a vehicle in the way, stay toward the right side of the street once you turn and slowly when it's safe move closer to the center line. ALWAYS look at the mirrors and turn your head when you turn to make sure no cars are coming. I hope this helps, Good Luck….

  13. Montana Grizzlies Kick Ass 2007 says:

DON"T HIT THE CURB WHEN PARKING. or go over it. you will fail for sure. when pulling out always look behind you to see if someone is coming. Buckle up and both hands on the wheel.

  14. coreyander says:

I don't know about Missouri, but in the states I've lived in (Washington and California) it is not a police officer that does the test, but rather someone whose job it is to give drivers tests. So, that should put you at ease a bit.

The biggest way to fail is to do something dangerous — pull too far into a crosswalk at an intersection, make an illegal U turn, fail to use a signal, change lanes in an intersection, etc — or do something that is obviously a no-no like speed, cut corners when you turn, tail gate, or fail to look over your shoulder when you change lanes.

In most states, the most technically difficult things (parallel parking, backing around a corner, etc.) will make you lose points, but not enough to make you fail. I, for example, failed both parallel parking and backing around a corner, but still passed the test by a good margin.

Making little mistakes won't mean that you fail the test. Obviously, the road is filled with bad drivers — and they managed to pass their test! If you consider yourself a good driver, you will probably do well on the test. Being relaxed helps a lot, and using a car that you are already comfortable driving is also very helpful. If you are comfortable and confident, you are more likely to be a good defensive driver — someone who is both cautious and assertive.

And remember — the person giving your test has seen MUCH WORSE drivers than you. You aren't competing to be the best driver, you are just proving that you can meet the minimal standards of having a drivers license. And it sounds from your post that you already know you can do AT LEAST that!

    Good luck!

    cool, hope you pass!

  3. Capt Weez says:

Don't worry about it, most driving testers really aren't very strict. They pass almost anyone.

  4. Ladeebug71 says:

A shot of tequila, oh and just imagine the examiner naked…

  5. A H says:

I am an experienced driver but I failed the first test because I stopped totally at a stop sign which was before a junction so I had to stop again at the junction. There was no line at the stop sign…….
Go and see first where they do the test and drive around first before the test date.

  6. tieia says:

You just answered your own question…you need to keep cool. You'll do great as long as you study the written material. I don't know what part of the country you are in, but ask those who have taken the driving portion of the test and see what the evaluator had them do. Some places (like San Francisco) are big on parallel parking. Make sure you always use your turn signal!!! Good luck!

  7. Cybeq says:

Learn some deep breathing exercises. Do not breathe shallow. Draw in and push your belly out. This will cause your diaphragm to expand. Try it. You can feel the stress level drop. If that doesn't help just remember you can always take it again if you goof up, the tester is human just like you, and in the big picture this really doesn't matter.

  8. Angel says:

Don't worry, you look hot, the instructor will be too busy checking you out, just be calm & concentrate, Good luck!

  9. Anonymous says:

if you get like 2 tries, the first time have some fun and just gun it the whole way, then the second, take it seriously.

  10. MiaMia27 says:

yes please try to stay calm. and practice, practice, practice. i just took mine last thursday and passed on the first try. i was so nervous before hand but i did really well. the driver was nice also, that calmed me down.

  2. me says:

Practice makes perfect =) Just keep practicing as much as you can prior to the test, it will steady your nerves and improve your turning ability all at the same time =)

  3. samecool11 says:

I drive a big car myself and I can't really tell you what the secret is, I just do it. I took my test in my big car and did fine, just don't sweat it. Although, maybe you should find a different car to use, it doesn't have to be yours you know, you could borrow a friends if they let you.

  4. beanie-* says:

    hello

  5. solo says:

All I can say is slow down – keep looking and checking your corners.

If you can find a similar vehicle to practise in (get a friend to take you to a big car park and put out some cones).

Remember you can always take the test again – so no pressure … relax – look at the idiots you know who have a licence – you can do it !!

  6. squirrelfreak16 says:

I haven't even tried to take a drivers test, but I know what you mean by turning, just a few days ago I was driving my dads van and I turned to sharp and almost hit a stop sign, all my dad could do was laugh and leave me helpless and screaming!

  7. *wishin_on_the_STARZ* says:

lots of practice in a empty lot or sometimes schools or places will set up little courses …those help….good luck :)

  8. Jester says:

practice practice practice!!! If that doesn't work, rent a car from like a hertz or something. make sure you get insurance, just in case ;-)

  9. UM FAN says:

get another car for the test, something small, much easier
