Does it matter what car you use on the drivers test?

I've been driving on my brothers car, a mini van from 1994 or so. Its not in fantastic shape, there is a partially broken light, the signal doesn't always stay down, the door panel was taken off for the sliding door, and it makes all sorts of noises. I think it passed inspection. Are there requirements for the car used during testing? If so what are they… Thank you!

In general, all the important systems have to function for a car to be legal for your driver's test. So, brakes, signals, lights, etc. have to work perfectly. The car doesn't have to look perfect, though. Sounds like your brother's van is probably fine.
