Do you think people over the age of 60 should have to retake the driving test?

I am not saying ALL drivers over 60 are poor drivers, but there are a lot of them out there.

Do you think people should have to re-test when they turn 60 to renew their license?
I am 21.

I drive an hour to work and an hour back every day on a highway with no passing availability, so if I am stuck behind an elderly person driving 20 miles under the speed limit on a clear day…I am stuck there.
yes I agree, there are several very poor drivers at every age. The reason I mention the older people is because that is when sensory skills start to get a little worse. Once again, not saying all people over 60 are bad drivers.
Larry M- I go to college in the town I live at and work full time in another town, there is no public transit system or I would just ride the bus, my daughter also attends daycare in the town we live in. I am not going to pass in a no-passing zone no matter how slow the person in front of me is going. And also, I would happily re-take the test and have my eyes check when I hit 60. If I don't pass, don't let me drive either.

No. They should stay at home and watch the Price Is Right all day. Old people who can't keep up to speed should stay off the road!

That sounds like a great idea. I've seen many old people who were dangerous to other drivers. They lost their skill in driving.

They have all the experiences they can get the real culprit that really need to retake their driving test every year are the younger generations who think they can do the impossible by driving drunk or speed like hell as if there are no other people on the road.

The older generation just need to have their eye check every now and than.

I definitely see the benefit to making older drivers retake the test, but I don't think it's fair to take away their licenses. Most older people's only form of transportation is their car, and to take away their driving privileges would make their lives much more difficult and they would lose their independence. Maybe after the third driving offense that a person over 60 commits, then they should have to retake the driving test. That way you're only punishing the people who are already proven to be a danger on the road.

I'm thinking they should start at age 65 and have to be tested yearly (but they not have to pay for being retested as many of them are on fixed incomes). Driving is not a right, it's a privilege. If they're no longer able to drive safely then they should NOT be behind the wheel. They are a danger to themselves, and a danger to the rest of the people on the roads.

You don't say how old you are. From my point of view 16 is much too young for that kind of responsibility but sadly they have to damage someone's car or injure someone before their license is taken away. Too much teenage drinking and driving.

Personally I think EVERYONE should have to retake their drivers test every 5 years.

If they can't pass the test they don't get their license renewed.

It's not only people over 60 who are bad drivers.

Florida is "Retirement Central", so yes, I think they should retake it. But your right, not all drive like s***, but enough of them do.=d

You need to move closer to your place of work. Set the cell phone down and concentrate on your driving. If the person in front of you is going 20mph under the limit that gives you more than enough time to pass. My all time favorite, your 21. Let's see how you feel 39 years from now. ha ha! lol.

I'll go with having their eyes checked.

    yes, the written one.
That way they can reassure the DMV & themselves that they are still good drivers.
But why not? The CAT bus is half fares for seniors 65+. They can ride the CAT anywhere in Raleigh.
This goes for many other cities that have public transportation.
Seniors have cheaper fares in public transportation.
