I took my drivers permit 10/05/07 and it expired 10/05/08. I am wondering, can I just schedule the actual test to get my license or do I have to take the written test again? Some people are telling me I've already taken it so no need to retake. Others are telling me I need to retake the test. Can anyone tell me? I live in California.

If you mean a permit then you do have to take it again, which is what I'm guessing you're talkiing about because you said it expired after a year. If you mean a license then you would only need to reregister your details at the DMV.

If you allowed your Instruction Permit to expire you must StART ALL OVER AGAIN. from the beginning. Pay the fee, take the Driver Ed and Driver Training, every thing.
