Can I take my driving test without having a permit or taking classes at age 16?

I live in California and one of my friends said she’s going to get her license on her 16th birthday in August
and she said you don’t need to have a permit or take classes, she basically said
you can just take the test without a permit or taking driving classes and you can just study from the book…?

I thought you didn’t need any of that only until you’re 18

I was just wondering if you could actually do that at 16, thanks.

In Minnesota, that is not possible.
You need to take a class to get your permit under 18. You need your permit for 6 months before you get your license at 16. You can get your permit without a class over 18. You need a permit for 3 months before you get your license over 18.
