Can I take my drivers license test in CA with an expired permit?

I dont think I can but I figured I'd ask, it doesnt say on the DMV website. My permit expired 9 days ago and I wanted to call in to schedule my drivers license test appointment today…am I going to need to retake my permit test?
I also forgot to add I am over 18….my mom says I should be able to take it.

No, as soon as you renew your learners permit you can also schedule to take the drivers test. There may be a fee for renewal, but you won't have to retest.

Permit has to be valid. You cannot renew your CA permit once it expires, You will have to go through the whole process all over again- fill out the application, take the written test & then be reissued a new permit.

    From the CA DMV Website:
    http://dmv.ca.gov/dl/dl_info.htm#renewpermit

"How to renew an instruction permit
If your permit has expired, you must start again. This means resubmitting documents, paying the application fee, and taking the required tests."
